Mr. Taïeb Cherkaoui

Ministry of the Interior

Mr. Taieb Cherkaoui was born in 1949 in Boujaad. He was appointed as Minister of Interior by His Majesty King Mohammed VI on January 4, 2010.

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Law (University of Mohammed V - Rabat) and a training certificate from the National School for Magistrates of Paris (École Nationale de la Magistrature). He also holds a Diploma of Advanced Studies in Sociology (University of Bordeaux II) and a Diploma of Higher Education in Juridical Sciences (University of Hassan II - Casablanca).

Mr. Cherkaoui held several positions within the body of the magistracy. In 1997, he was appointed as Director of Criminal Affairs and Amnesty in the Ministry of Justice.

He has participated in numerous international conferences and contributed to the supervision of several seminars and workshops at the national, regional and international levels.

Mr. Taieb Cherkaoui is member of the Committee of Experts of the Council of Arab Justice Ministers and the National Group of the UNDP project for the modernization of public prosecutors' offices in Arab countries.

He was the General Prosecutor of the Supreme Court in 2007. In 2008 His Majesty the King appointed him as first president of the same court. He held this position until his appointment as Minister of Interior.
