Call to open associations to young people and children and involve them in decision making process

The exhibition stall of the National Human Rights Council and the Central Authority for the Prevention of Corruption, in Casablanca international book fair, hosted today, Monday, 17 Feb. 2014, a meeting to discuss “participation in associations” and the involvement of young people in the decision making process, within associations.

The participants of this meeting, supervised by the Chouala Association (Casablanca Chapter), called for greater participation of young people in associations and more flexibility in term of management and projects. These projects should necessarily include initiatives targeting and executed by young people and children.

Young people should be encouraged to be part of education clubs and associations and to take the initiate to create their own clubs and associations, the participants suggested in the meeting. Associations should reinforce their outreach policies and open the door to young people to suggest projects and initiatives that would best serve their interests.

Schools also have a role to play in this regard, participants said. They should introduce children and young people to civil society and voluntary action and encourage them to be involved and have their say.
