National conference in Laayoune: Domestication of international human rights law and international humanitarian law
The CNDH’s regional human rights commission in Laayoune held a national seminar on the domestication of international human rights law and the International Humanitarian Law, on April 16, 2016 at the Regional Council of Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra.
The conference was attended by university professors, experts, representatives of local authorities, elected officials, and media and civil society stakeholders.
The participants discussed domestication issues and challenges in Morocco and highlighted best practices in this regard. The adopted a declaration with a set of recommendations to harmonize Moroccan legislation with the international human rights conventions that Morocco had ratified.
The Laayoune Declaration also recommends building capacities of association, law enforcement officers, students, and journalists, so that they can be able to better advocate for human rights and for the domestication of international human rights law and the International Humanitarian Law.
On the sidelines of the conference, the Regional Human Rights Commission of Laayoune Es-Smara signed a partnership agreement with the Faculty of economics law and social sciences-Rabat and the Regional Council of Laayoune-Sakia-Elhamra. The agreement aims at strengthening cooperation in the areas of training and research and sharing and scientific, cultural, and human rights knowledge and experiences.
The Commission also signed another partnership agreement with Radio Plus to promote human rights through media tools.
