CCDH Chairs Network of ANHRI
The Advisory Council on Human Rights (CCDH) is now the President of the African Network of National Human Rights Institutions for a two-year term.This decision was taken on the sidelines of the 7th Conference of African National Human Rights Institutions, held in Rabat from November 3-5, 2009, at the initiative of the CCDH and in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the African Network of National Human Rights Institutions.
Under the theme Peace and Justice: Role of NHRI, the 7th Conference provided a space for exchanging experiences among various participants who could identify good practices to involve NHRIs in improving the administration of justice, the functioning of police and prison system, restoring peace, particularly in post-conflict situations.
Participants from 37 African countries as well as American and European countries examined also the role of NHRIs in the fight against impunity, identified ways for their close cooperation with the judiciary and government agencies and addressed their role in the compensation and rehabilitation for human rights violations in post-conflict situations. This meeting also helped establish links with people affected by conflict, including victims of human rights violations and consider their contribution to capacity building as regards the administration of justice and reforms .
