CERTIFICATES OF APPRECIATION FOR INMATES AT LOCAL PRISON OF NADOR FOR PASSING EXAMS

The regional Human Rights Commission of Al Hoceima-Nador visited on Friday, August 2, 2013, the local prison of Nador. This visit was scheduled in line with the commission’s permanent concern with the prisoners’ issues.

Certificates of appreciation were handed to students who passed their examinations in the academic year 2012-2013. The aim is to motivate the students concerned to succeed in their studies and contribute to their reintegration into society once they get out of prison. The National Human Rights Council published in October 2012 a thematic report on prison conditions, entitled “Crisis in the Prisons: a Shared Responsibility – 100 Recommendations for Protecting the Rights of Prisoners.”

The report recommended strengthening cooperation between the Delegation General of the Prisons Administration and Reintegration, the Ministry of National Education, the Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training and the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Reintegration of Prisoners, together with the other actors in the areas of education, training and reintegration. “No conditions should be attached to the right to education”, the report said. It also recommended organizing awareness programs for prisoners on the importance of education and vocational training.
