CCDH-CCM Agreement
The Director General of the Moroccan Cinematographic Center (CCM), Mr. Nour Eddine Sail and the President of the Advisory Council on Human Rights (CCDH), Mr. Ahmed Herzenni, signed on April 1, 2009, an agreement of cooperation and partnership on the promotion of the human rights culture and films on the preservation of memory and gross human rights violations, perpetrated in the past.
The CCM commits itself to:
- Incorporate the principles and values of human rights as criteria for selecting films which would benefit from financial support;
- Support documentaries and short films dealing with human rights, the contemporary history of Morocco and the memory of the past gross violations of human rights;
- Support Mediterranean film meetings on human rights, organized by the CCDH;
- Raise the awareness of filmmakers to contribute to the promotion of the human rights culture;
- Put CCM archives at the disposal of researchers and filmmakers, for consultation and possible use under conditions set by both signatory parties.
On the other hand, the CCDH undertakes to:
- Organize training sessions for CCM staff in the field of human rights;
Put at the disposal of CCM staff documents on human rights needed to perform their tasks;
- Promote the films supported by the CCM and falling within CCDH tasks or whose themes come under this agreement.
Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Herzenni said that the database accumulated by the CCDH would enhance creativity and provide a source of inspiration for filmmakers.
He stated that this agreement will have a positive impact in terms of documentation and creativity, given the action of the CCDH and CCM who archives the Moroccan past and present.
Mr. Sail said that this agreement recognized the role of Moroccan cinema in highlighting the truth and raising awareness about human rights in a smart manner, adding that it would also encourage filmmakers to promote the human rights culture.
This agreement, he said, was a means to encourage respect for the rights of filmmakers, continually threatened by piracy, and would strengthen the work of other institutions that ensure the protection of copyright in Morocco.
