CNDH SENDS A COMMITTEE TO INVESTIGATE EVENTS OF SOUISSI I UNIVERSITY’S HALL OF RESIDENCE

Following the events erupted at the University of Souissi I, on 21 and 22 April 2011, in Rabat, the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) sent a committee to inquire in situ the extent of damage and consequences of these events.

The said commission heard the testimonies of the directors of the Souissi I and Souissi II halls of residence and a number of students as well, and drafted a report on its findings.

This initiative is in line with the Council’s mandate regarding the protection of human rights as stipulated in its creating Dahir, particularly with respect to the conduct of investigations, inquiries and intervention, on an emergency basis, whenever there is a source of tension to prevent any possible human rights violations, by deploying all appropriate and necessary means, including mediation and conciliation.
