HUMAN RIGHTS PROTECTION: PROGRAMS

A SPECIAL GUIDE FOR VISITS TO DETENTION CENTERS

The Advisory Council on Human Rights prepared a special guide to facilitate the visits of the Council to detention centers, in line with its missions, functions, and the Paris Principles, governing national human rights institutions.

The objective of this guide is to improve visiting conditions to detention facilities and publicize the Council’s role in this area. It also focuses on international standards of detention and treatment of detainees and traces guidelines for visits to detention centers and determines their conditions and phases.

CONDITIONS AND SITUATION OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

The Council is concerned by the situation of persons with disabilities. It examines complaints submitted to the Council or the contents of relevant reports published by the different civil society stakeholders. The Council follows-up the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and its Optional Protocol and national initiatives aiming at the protection of the rights of person with disabilities in Morocco in comparison with the substantive provisions of the Convention. It makes relevant recommendations in this area.

Morocco ratified this Convention on 8 April 2009, following a letter addressed by the King to the Council on 10 December 2008 on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
